About This Project
Community engagement has always been central to the work of Mark Francis, also known as Bulk Styles. Beyond large scale murals and high profile events, his practice includes hands on outreach that invites people directly into the creative process. Through charitable initiatives, youth workshops, and collaborative public art experiences, Mark uses spray paint as a tool for connection, confidence building, and shared expression.
At the Lake Worth Beach Street Painting Festival, one of South Florida's most attended arts events drawing more than 100,000 visitors annually, Mark led an interactive youth focused installation designed to immerse participants in the world of large scale art. The project featured a custom built wooden structure transformed into a vibrant bee themed environment filled with bold color, graphic shapes, and playful movement. Rather than painting alone, Mark guided children step by step, allowing them to contribute directly to the evolving composition.
Using water based spray paint in a supervised, accessible format, young artists were encouraged to experiment with color blending, line work, and layering techniques. The installation allowed guests to walk inside the piece, photograph the experience, and witness how collaborative energy shapes the final outcome. The result was not just a finished artwork, but a live demonstration of creativity as a shared process.
This project reflects the broader Bulk Styles mission of making art approachable and empowering. By placing tools in the hands of the next generation within a major public festival setting, Mark reinforced the idea that creativity belongs to everyone. The Lake Worth Beach activation stands as a powerful example of how community art initiatives can inspire confidence, foster pride, and leave a lasting impression far beyond the event itself.

Design Concept
Developing the Artwork
The concept for this interactive installation began with one clear objective: create a hands on art experience that would allow children to step inside the world of large scale mural painting. Rather than producing a traditional flat wall mural, the idea evolved into a three dimensional wooden structure that could function as both a canvas and an immersive environment. The bee theme was selected for its symbolism of community, teamwork, and collective creativity, aligning naturally with the spirit of the festival.
Before the event, the structure was constructed and primed to ensure a safe, durable surface suitable for youth participation. The base composition was lightly mapped out to provide visual direction while still leaving space for organic collaboration. Bright yellows, sky blues, bold blacks, and energetic splashes of color were chosen to feel playful and approachable, creating an inviting environment that encouraged participation rather than intimidation.
During the festival, Mark transitioned from muralist to mentor. Children were guided through the fundamentals of spray technique, including distance control, layering, and color blending, using water based paint to maintain safety and accessibility. As the day progressed, the installation evolved piece by piece, shaped by dozens of individual contributions. The creative process became a performance in itself, drawing in families and onlookers who witnessed how collaborative energy transforms a blank surface into a vibrant composition.
From initial planning through final touches, the project demonstrated how structured design and open participation can coexist. The completed installation stood not only as a colorful focal point within a festival that attracts more than 100,000 attendees, but as proof that community driven art experiences can empower young creators and strengthen public connection to the arts.

The Impact of the Artwork
Murals inside hospitality environments often become a defining feature of the space. Guests naturally gravitate toward bold artwork, making it a popular backdrop for photos and social media.
For Mack House Brew Pub, the mural contributes to the overall atmosphere of the brewery while reinforcing the creative and energetic personality of the brand.
Large scale artwork helps businesses create environments that feel distinctive and memorable. The mural now serves as a visual centerpiece within the brewery space.
