Project
2nd Annual Southwest Florida Open
About This Project
In February 2026, Mark Francis, professionally known as Bulk Styles, served as the featured live painting artist for the 2nd Annual Southwest Florida Open. This special event brought together golf enthusiasts, community supporters, and charitable partners for a weekend of competition and philanthropy. Mark's live painting activation became a centerpiece of the experience, blending fine art with meaningful impact.
Painting on site during the event, Mark created an original large canvas piece inspired by the vibrant energy of Southwest Florida, a bold composition featuring an expressive alligator rendered in dynamic color and atmosphere. The artwork was designed to reflect both the spirit of the region and the uplifting nature of the tournament, becoming a visual anchor for the celebration.
Once completed, the painting was auctioned off for breast cancer research and support, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofit initiatives. By placing art directly in the service of community health and advocacy, the project extended Mark's creative influence beyond aesthetic impact, channeling it toward tangible positive outcomes for those affected by breast cancer.
This live painting activation at the Southwest Florida Open highlights Mark Francis' belief in the power of art to unite people, spark conversation, and contribute meaningfully to important causes. More than a performance or a finished artwork, the piece stands as a symbol of community collaboration, charitable giving, and the creative spirit that defines both the event and the region.

Design Concept
Developing the Artwork
The concept for this live painting began with a dual purpose: create a visually compelling piece that reflected Southwest Florida's identity while supporting a cause tied to strength, resilience, and hope. Early planning focused on imagery that felt bold and unmistakably Floridian. The alligator emerged as the central subject, symbolizing power and endurance, while a vibrant palette of pinks and tropical tones subtly honored the event's breast cancer awareness mission.
Because the canvas would be created live during the tournament, the composition was carefully structured in advance. Strong lighting contrast, clean silhouette work, and layered background elements were mapped to ensure the piece would read clearly from a distance while still offering depth up close. The design needed to evolve fluidly in real time, allowing guests to see dramatic progress throughout the event rather than waiting for a final reveal.
Execution required precision and performance awareness. Working outdoors in a public setting meant balancing technical control with audience engagement. As the canvas developed layer by layer, spray techniques, soft gradients, and controlled highlights built dimension and movement. The live format allowed attendees to witness the transformation from blank canvas to finished artwork, creating anticipation leading into the auction moment.
From initial sketch through final detail, the project demonstrated how live art can elevate a charitable event. The completed painting not only served as a centerpiece during the Southwest Florida Open, but also carried forward its purpose through auction proceeds benefiting breast cancer initiatives. The result was a seamless intersection of art, philanthropy, and community connection.
