About This Project
Mark Francis served as a live painting artist at SunFest for three consecutive years, returning to the festival in 2017, 2018, and 2019. As one of South Florida's largest waterfront music and arts festivals, SunFest draws massive crowds and creates an ideal environment for live art experiences that thrive on energy, movement, and audience engagement.
Throughout each appearance, Mark painted live on site, giving festival attendees a rare opportunity to witness the full creative process from start to finish. Live painting at SunFest allowed guests to see how a large-scale artwork evolves in real time, from the first lines and color blocks to the final layered details. This open, process-driven approach helped demystify graffiti-rooted art while highlighting the skill, planning, and intention behind each piece.
Despite challenging outdoor conditions, including high heat, humidity, and periods of rain, the live painting experience remained a focal point within the festival grounds. The constantly changing environment, combined with the rhythm of live music and the flow of festivalgoers, contributed to an atmosphere that made each painting unique. Mark's ability to adapt to these conditions reinforced the flexibility and impact of live art in large-scale public events.
Being invited back to SunFest three years in a row reflects the success of the collaboration and the value of live painting as an interactive visual experience. These projects highlight Mark Francis' experience working within major festivals and brand-supported events, showcasing how live art can elevate public spaces, engage large audiences, and create lasting visual moments beyond the event itself.
